Zanzibar: Full Day Spice farm, Prison island & Stone town
Step into the heart of Zanzibar and experience a day that captures the island’s true essence — its scents, its stories, and its soul. This full-day guided tour takes you through Zanzibar’s rich history, tropical beauty, and vibrant culture, combining three of the island’s most iconic experiences: the world-famous Spice Farm, the historic Prison Island, and the timeless Stone Town.
Your adventure begins with a journey through the lush countryside of Zanzibar. At the Spice Farm, the air is filled with the aroma of cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and vanilla — the very treasures that once brought merchants from around the world to this island. Walk through the plantations with your local guide and learn how Zanzibar became the “Spice Island.” Smell, touch, and taste fresh spices and tropical fruits straight from the trees. Watch a coconut climber in action and sip fresh coconut water under the shade of palm trees — a refreshing gift from nature.
Next, your boat awaits for a short cruise to Prison Island (Changuu Island), once used as a quarantine station and originally built to hold rebellious slaves. Today, the island is a peaceful sanctuary, home to a family of giant Aldabra tortoises — some over 150 years old. Wander around, feed these gentle giants, and capture unforgettable moments with the turquoise ocean as your backdrop. You’ll also have time to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the beach surrounded by crystal-clear waters and coral reefs.
After a morning of nature and sea, you’ll return to the mainland to explore Stone Town, the cultural heartbeat of Zanzibar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its narrow alleys where history whispers through every carved wooden door and every spice-scented breeze. Visit landmarks like the Old Slave Market, House of Wonders, and the Sultan’s Palace, and listen to stories of explorers, sultans, and traders who shaped the island’s identity.
Your guide will bring Stone Town to life with tales of its Arab, Indian, Persian, and African influences, explaining how centuries of trade and culture created this unique blend of architecture, cuisine, and tradition. You’ll have time to explore local markets filled with handmade crafts, spices, and souvenirs — perfect reminders of your Zanzibari journey.
As the day winds down, enjoy a final look at the Indian Ocean shimmering under the sun, and feel the rhythm of Zanzibar — calm, colorful, and full of stories.
